About the artist
Brooklyn, New York
Jing Wei is an illustrator and printmaker. At the age of seven, she moved permanently from China to the United States and gradually adapted to life as an American citizen. One day, she decided to make a career out of drawing and headed east to attend The Rhode Island School of Design for Illustration. There, she began working with woodcuts, specifically reduction cuts. This process, also known as "suicide woodcuts," allows her to print multi-colored images from one block.
Jing is currently located in Brooklyn, between a wonton factory and a meat packing plant. Since moving to New York, she has found a number of different outlets for her work, including editorial illustration, gallery exhibitions, apparel design and character design for production. Her illustrations have been seen in publications such as 5280, Boston Magazine, PlanSponsor, and The Stranger. In the years to come, she hopes to encounter more opportunities that allow her to keep making artwork.
